Naturally bitter and unsweetened, yet gentle, pleasant and slightly fruity, because it spends a long time in the melanger. The taste varies from batch to batch: each batch carries the flavour of the cacao from its region and harvest, and even beans from the same region differ between batches.

Good to know
Cacao naturally contains theobromine and a little caffeine. If you’re pregnant, nursing, sensitive to caffeine or take any medication, ask your doctor before drinking it. Keep cacao away from dogs and cats.

Your first cup

This is just a starting point. You will surely find your own best recipe: making cacao is a path of exploring.

  1. Take 15–20 g of cacao and chop or shave it.
  2. Heat 150–200 ml of water until it is hot but not boiling, about 160–175 °F / 70–80 °C, to keep its full flavour and aroma.
  3. Add spices and a pinch of salt, which makes the cup richer: cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, orange peel, vanilla or chili. One, several or none.
  4. If you like, a little honey or another sweetener to balance the natural bitterness.
  5. Blend so everything comes together and the flavour opens up. A blender works best; a milk frother works too.

Reviews

No reviews yet: Batch 09/2026 is our first batch for sale.

When your block has arrived, we’ll ask you once how it went. We publish every review from verified buyers, five stars or one.

How we handle reviews

We publish every review from verified buyers, five stars or one. We hold back reviews that are spam, about another product, contain personal details, or describe medical effects, diagnoses or treatment (cacao is a food, not medicine), and we write to you so you can edit yours. Reviews from people who received a free block are labelled and are not part of the star rating.
